There are certain situations where excess water gets into your home and causes damage where it would be difficult to have foreseen the problem, for instance in the case of flooding or broken pipes. However one of the greatest causes of water damage is simple and nonthreatening condensation. When hot air hits cold air droplets of water are formed that sit on the surfaces of your home, this is condensation. When you live in a cold country many household activities can trigger condensation and if you want to ensure decent mildew prevention throughout your home you will need to deal with your condensation problems.

Here are some of the major causes of condensation for you to consider. Take action if you want to avoid regular sessions removing mildew.

1. Running hot showers and baths in a cold house causes lots of steam and this settles into droplets of condensation over your tiling and window frames.
2. Kitchen cooking will also send plumes of steam into the air which can settle in kitchen draws, splash backs and wallpaper.
3. Drying damp clothes on radiators is another great way to send moisture into the air of your bedrooms causing mildew on the walls and ceilings.

Consider some of the following if you want to cut back on this damp air.

1. Buy and install exhaust fans in the bathroom that switch on automatically when moisture levels start to peak.
2. Get a decent kitchen hood installed above the cooking area. Really if possible this hood should be vented out of the kitchen to the outside of the building.
3. Hang wet clothing on a clothes horse in a cool room. They will take a bit longer to dry but less dampness will be created.

Finally try to air your home with fresh air at least once a week.
