May 10th, 2010

Like other home appliances, washing machines also encounter operation problems. Though most can be easily fixed on your own, there are some that might require the expertise of a professional. Remember that washers are composed of different controls and running components, hence, time would come that one of these parts will start to malfunction. When this happens, it is important that you know what to do. Note:  you can probably reduce your need for repairs by looking washing machine reviews and purchasing the machines that have the best repair free history.

To ensure that you will be doing the right thing, here are some of the common washer problems that you will most likely encounter, along with some basic troubleshooting tips that will help you effectively handle the situation.

  • The washer won’t run – This is a common problem that is being encountered by many household users. What you should do is to check if the washer is plugged correctly and ascertain that the receptacle is working properly.
  • The washer doesn’t agitate – This problem is typical for those using top-loaders. If the washer fills with water but doesn’t agitate, the problem would most likely be in the motor or the lid switch. In that regard, the very first thing that you should do is to check its spin cycle. Inspect if the washer’s belt is broken or if the motor is working properly. If everything is in perfect condition, try to check for the lid swtich. If the plastic tab on the lid is broken, there is a big chance that the washer will halt in certain cycles. When that happens, it is best to call for professional help.
